What Does It Mean to Sponsor Someone?

Steps to Sponsor Your Family Member

Establish Eligibility: First, confirm that you meet the requirements to be a sponsor. You must be over 18, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and not receiving social assistance.
Define Family Relationship: Ensure that the person you wish to sponsor qualifies as a family member according to Canada’s immigration guidelines.

Sponsoring Your Parents and Grandparents

You have two options to reunite with your parents and grandparents:

Family Sponsorship Program: This pathway grants permanent residency to your parents and grandparents upon arrival in Canada.
Super Visa: If your parents or grandparents wish to visit Canada temporarily but for extended stays, the Super Visa allows them to stay for up to two years at a time without needing to leave every six months

Sponsoring Your Dependent Children

Under the family sponsorship program, dependent children are eligible for permanent residency upon arrival, provided they meet the definition of dependent children as per Canadian immigration rules.
