Family Sponsorship (Parents, Grandparents, Children)

Amplus Immigration Corp. Located in Mississauga, we specialize in the Canada Family Sponsorship program, which focuses on reuniting families and allowing eligible family members—such as children, parents, and grandparents—to come to Canada as permanent residents.

How the Canada Family Sponsorship Program Operates

Family sponsorship is a key aspect of Canada’s immigration policies, emphasizing the importance of family reunification. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals registered under the Canadian Indian Act can sponsor their closest family members living abroad.

What Does It Mean to Sponsor Someone?

When you apply to become a sponsor, you commit to providing financial support for your partner’s basic living needs in Canada. This includes:

  • Essential Needs: Food, clothing, shelter, and other daily necessities.

  • Health Care: Coverage for dental, vision, and other health-related expenses not provided by public health services.

It’s important to understand that if your sponsored partner applies for social assistance during the sponsorship period, you will be responsible for reimbursing the Canadian government.

Who Can Be Sponsored?

Eligible family members for sponsorship include:

  • Dependent Children (including adopted children)

  • Parents and Grandparents

  • Other Family Members (subject to specific conditions)

Steps to Sponsor Your Family Member

  1. Establish Eligibility: First, confirm that you meet the requirements to be a sponsor. You must be over 18, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and not receiving social assistance.
  2. Define Family Relationship: Ensure that the person you wish to sponsor qualifies as a family member according to Canada’s immigration guidelines.
  3. Submit Application: After verifying both parties’ eligibility, you can submit a family sponsorship application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Sponsoring Your Parents and Grandparents

You have two options to reunite with your parents and grandparents:

  1. Family Sponsorship Program: This pathway grants permanent residency to your parents and grandparents upon arrival in Canada.
  2. Super Visa: If your parents or grandparents wish to visit Canada temporarily but for extended stays, the Super Visa allows them to stay for up to two years at a time without needing to leave every six months

Sponsoring Your Dependent Children

Under the family sponsorship program, dependent children are eligible for permanent residency upon arrival, provided they meet the definition of dependent children as per Canadian immigration rules.
